Corey Garlow

Music has always been a passion in my life, after taking an Electronic Music Composition class my sophomore year of High school I began to realize what I really wanted to do. My friend Doug also my mentor saw this interest and introduced me to a Digital Audio Workstation called Reason. At first he showed me the basics, but when I got the hang of the program we began to send each other compositions, in turn we began to learn more and more about the program while developing our musical styles.

My musical background is very diverse while I spent my senior year in high school in the Seminole High Orchestra learning the cello (Inspired by the Finiish Metal band Apocalyptica), I also developed a taste for Drum and Bass and the vast genres of Death Metal and Hardcore. Combined with my knowledge of computers and years of experience growing up around my dad who is a Computer Programmer, I decided to take a look at schools that offered a degree with a more technical aspect of music. Soon I arrived at IADT’s Recording Arts Program.

I entered in the Artisik Envy competition to give myself a chance to prove myself to more than just my friends and family. I want to gain an opportunity to show the world the artwork is not just for the sake of art but that it shares a vision of the future. Art is something that gives us hope, when times are bad; we turn to artists to give us a vision. No matter what the breed of artist, we all hold the power to enact change. We are the catalyst that stirs the pot, incites controversy, sparks imagination and inflames the soul. Every artist must never forget the concept of passion. Without passion art would be just another pretty picture on the wall.

One day I would like the own my recording studio or go back and learn more of the cello and get a performance degree. At the end of things in life as long as I’m involved in music I will be happy. I don’t wish to live a normal life at all. For all we know this could be our only shot at it, so I make every day count.

    Yo Corey

I love the track, really digging the vibes. Love the sounds of the congas and the soulful sounds of the horns. Love the start of the track, kinda sounds like it’s gonna be a deep house track from the sounds of the birds, then the congas kick in and then the mild drum and bass feel along with the horns. Overall it’s awesome, it has the elements of all my favorite electronica music. I just wish it were longer so I can dig the vibes more!
