He started his career as a conceptual graphic designer—an artist harnessing the power of meaningful design to communicate clients’ messages. Carl worked across the spectrum of media, learning the eccentricities of every advertising element—from the logo, to the billboard, to the full-motion video. Carl learned the tools and the talk of the trade, the ins and outs of the advertising field that one only learns from being on the job—in the meeting, at the press check, on the shoot and in the awards books.
When Carl made the move to copywriter, he never abandoned his passion—in fact the change was so natural, he didn’t miss a beat. He has always been attuned to the written word, and the same knack for smart, strategic, witty communication followed me from my days in design. Now he has dealt with words across the board—headlines, taglines, websites, press releases, TV, radio, even business plans and technical writing.
